A lot of modern swimming pools are using the latest and most advanced air source heat swimming pool heaters to get maximum return from the minimum input of energy when heating their pool. Deep End Pools have been supplying and installing swimming pool air source heat pumps for around 10 years.
The way a heat pump manages to be so efficient is through very economic heat transfer, the drawback of this is that it can take longer than a traditional boiler to heat the pool as it is transferring heat from the ambient air temperature around the unit. This is why when we install a an air source heat pump we have plenty of fresh air circulation to ensure the best possible air flow through the unit.
As the weather can be so variable from day to day with temperatures fluctuating as much as 20*c in a single month the units are sold with a few assumptions having being made by the manufacturer.
These assumptions are normally Average air temperature in a month, Assuming the swimming pool is covered when not in use and assuming that the circulation pump is on for a minimum number of hours per day.
These boundaries are normally easily met in a normal month however we sometimes get some really beautiful days in March and some really cold wet day days in May or June.
If you turn on your May – Sept heat pump in March because we are having glorious 22*c day time temperatures you have to consider that the average air temperature for this time of year is around 4*c / 5*c.
As many swimming pool owners who have had heat pumps for a few seasons will know the manufactures specification is normally fairly accurate over the swimming season.
2012 has been a very peculiar year though with a drought order coming in effect from mid April and almost everyday since we have had rain and cooler than average air temperatures and even threats of sleet and snow which obviously means that your not in an average May.
As soon as May gets to an average temperature of consistently around 15*c / 16*c (Day and Night) then the May to September heaters will be working as per manufacturers guidelines.

The weather over the past few weeks since the drought order and hose pipe ban have been brought into place in our local area has not stopped raining.
This has brought about some fresh new obstacles for Deep End Pools service engineers on Deep End Pools service and maintenance visits.
On a regular Service visit a Deep End Pools service engineer may have to firstly drain any excess water that rain will have topped up into the pool. However this water will not be wasted and only pumped straight to waste this will allow your pool to have an extra long backwash which can give your sand filter an extra good cleaning.
The next issue with lots of fresh rainwater into the swimming pool is the additional chemical consumption. While rainwater is pure it may become contaminated during collection of particulate matter in the air as it falls. While rainwater does not contain chlorine, contamination from airborne pollutants will be dropped straight into your swimming pool.
The benefit of a Deep End Pools service and maintenance visit is that the engineer will be able to counter act these side effects in and make additions of chemicals that will ensure that your swimming pool is tip top shape even if the weather is not.
Deep End Pools carry out service visits even when the pool is in use or not so no matter when you go to the swimming pool it is ready for you and your family to use without exception.
To arrange for Deep End Pools regular maintenance visits please call 01494 671787.

How about this for a swimming pool with a difference!

The building “Aquaria Grande” is designed for an area in Mumbai, has been designed by Hong Kong-based architect James Law and Indian real estate company Wadhwa Group.

As you can see there is 37 stories with 200 apartments split over 2 tower blocks.
At this time these are artists impressions of the development, The design has had plenty of praise or though some are not so keen
“architectural nightmare” Said one Technology reporter.
“deadly accident waiting to happen….No matter what you want to call this, I would call it crazy” Said one writer.
Either way you look at it it defiantly stands out from your traditional block of flats.

Wooden Swimming Pools are a pool constructed from wooden walls with a swimming pool liner fitted to the inside of the framework. The top of the pool is often finished in a decorative timber coping that creates a rail to tie the structure together and a neat smooth finish to the top of the pool.
Wooden Swimming Pools offer a very versatile option for a swimming pool installation. Wooden Swimming Pools can be as small as 8m2 of surface area or up to and over 50m2 of surface area.
Wooden Swimming Pools can be installed above ground, in the ground or a mixture of both. Wooden Swimming Pools can a lot of the features of a full in ground swimming pool installation.
Wooden Swimming Pools are the first major step from the likes of your intex easy up pools and portable above ground pools to full swimming pool ownership.
The wooden pools are semi permanent structures that often stand on a firm leveled area, Concrete or Type 1 are the most common.

This is a 10m x 5m Wooden Pool
The installation of a wooden pool can often be completed with full installation of structure, fittings, liner, pump and filters in around 2 – 3 weeks. If you chose to sink your pool into the ground the construction can take a little longer.
Larger wooden swimming pools often have to have steel reinforcement to prevent bowing of the walls with the weight of the pools water forcing against the long lengths. The pools are often variations of an 8-sided Octagon as each of the corners allows the timbers to interlock together for strength.

Wooden Pool that has been landscaped into the garden area
Wooden framed pools are available in kit form for as little as £3,000.
If you would like more information on wooden swimming pools or would like for Deep End Pools to give you a quote for installation please call 01494 671787

With the past few weeks giving us hints of a potentially glorious swimming pool summer there has never been a better time to look into getting our very own swimming pool.
Swimming Pools have evolved a lot further than just being a luxury for the “Lords and Ladies of the manor” and are getting more and more popular.
Here is a Google Satellite image of an area of existing swimming pool installations in Maidenhead, Berkshire.

As you can see these are a lots of different types of swimming pools in a very close proximity to each other.
Swimming pools are so accessible now due to the many different construction methods available on the market. Deep End Pools Swimming Pool Construction teams regularly use many popular methods, each one chosen for its benefits for that particular project.
The things that help Deep End Pools decide which construction method is best for our project are:
- Desired final finish – Most commonly being Liner or Tiled
- Timescale – How long you want the project to take pools can be installed within a matter of a few weeks or some larger tiled pools can take well over 12 weeks with the correct recommended curing times for each stage of the Swimming Pool Construction
- Size – Each method has a recommend maximum wall height and if you want a full diving pool you may have to use a different method to that of a 4’ flat-bottomed pool.
- Budget – This part makes the biggest difference of the all as a full tiled pool costs a lot more to construct than a plain 20”
Swimming pool constructions come in many different styles and techniques. Each system has its own benefits and drawbacks. At Deep End Pools we use a each of them as required once we have accessed your project and have discussed the above points with you so that we can find the best all round solution. There will be more posts explaining in a little more detail each construction method.

Deep End Pools are based mainly in the south east of England. Deep End Pools normal areas covered are Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and surrounding areas. But we sometimes travel a little further afield.
With Deep End Pools Taplow store closing down in the near future we are clearing our display stocks which meant our Endless Summer Enclosure which displayed a endless pool and Jacuzzi hot tubs had to be sold as we no longer had room for it.
The enclosure was sold to a lucky new owner in Shropshire, which meant a day out for Deep End Pools Ollie and Kevin to help unload the enclosure at its new location.
On the way back from the delivery they stopped at Telford Services and spotted this unique piece of history.

In 1837 James Nasmyth was asked by the Great Western Steam Company to develop a large forging hammer that could have adjustable force and pressure. Nasmyth sketched out his idea for the first steam hammer. He kept his ideas for new devices, mostly in drawings, in a “Scheme Book” which he openly showed to his customers.
In April 1842, Nasmyth went on a business trip to France to try and start supplying the French arsenals and dockyards with tools and while he was there took the opportunity to visit the Le Creusot works. On going round the works, he found a steam-hammer at work.
After a quick conversation it was fund that one of the managers at the Works had copied the drawing of it from the Scheme Book while on a visit to England.
Nasmyth patented the hammer, in June 1842, and began production of them in Edinburgh. By using the hammer production costs could be reduced by over 50 percent, while at the same time improving the quality of the forgings produced.
By 1856 a total of 490 hammers had been produced which were sold across Europe to Russia, India and even Australia.
Well this is definitely the biggest hammer I have ever seen!

A natural swimming pool or Natural swimming pond is a type of swimming pool that is getting more and more popular. With everyone doing what they can where possible to become as “green” as possible this maybe your ideal balance of luxury with Eco friend twist.
A natural swimming pool or natural swimming pond is called “Natural” because the filtration systems used have biological equivalents in the natural world. So in essence it is replicating the natural processes in your own garden.
Natural swimming pools have been growing in popularity with main land Europe having well over 20,000 Natural Pools and the UK only having 250 it shows that this is a concept that is very popular and may very well soon be hitting the UK by force.

How Natural is a Natural Swimming Pool?
A natural swimming pool can be as natural as you’re really want it to be, The most Natural pool currently in existence uses no pumps what so ever and circulation is purely by natural confection. This convection will force the water through a deep gravel bed and the water will then return into the swimming area of the pool. This combined with a selection specially picked plants the regeneration zone and a good hands on maintenance of the pool will be a true Natural Pool / Natural Pond.
There are then blends of modern pools combined with that of features found in natural pools and lakes. The main characteristics though are all the same: No chemicals, energy efficient as possible to run and planting providing the pools nutrition.
Some people do however want the Natural swimming pool look and benefits but with a few modern tweaks. These tweaks are can be heating the water to offer you a more comfortable swim (especially in the earlier and later parts of summer) Another popular option people add is UV light treatment that kills a lot of harmful bacteria along with one of the most common troubles with a natural pool – Algae. The UV can still be classed as a natural process that happens in nature as UV is produced by the sun.
The designs and shapes of the pools can also be largely varied some people opt for a traditional almost lake like natural pond where as others like very modern look with the natural pool “touch”
As these pools are all very unique and each one is 100% unique it truly is a bespoke installation to your exact requirements.

Deep End Pools attended the British Association of Natural Swimming Pools meeting on the 12th March 2012 where many of the guidelines where being drawn up for the different ways to design construct and maintain natural swimming ponds within the UK. Deep End Pools are actively working alongside BANSP to promote and install Natural Swimming Pools / Natural Swimming Ponds alongside our traditional swimming pool constructions.
If you would like any more details or information on natural swimming ponds please contact us or call 01494 671787

Swimming pool liner changes can greatly transform the look of your swimming pool almost instantly.
Swimming pool liners are the internal finish to the majority of UK swimming pools and have an average life expectancy of 10 – 15 years (Dependant on thickness of the liner and maintained water quality)
At Deep End Pools we can proudly call ourselves Liner Fitting experts as we fit well over 50 swimming pool liners a year and have been doing so the past 10 years. In this time we have developed a systematic installation method that has proven to be quick and effective each and every time.
We start by arranging for a site visit by Deep End Pools. In this free no obligation meeting we see your pools specific needs and can have a look at any other potential works may need carrying out the same time.
Then you will receive a written quotation with a large breakdown of options and what we recommend for your swimming pool.
Upon receiving the go ahead from yourselves we then arrange for the first site visit by an engineer to begin preparing your swimming pool for its new liner and take accurate dimensions of your pool to get the liner made to exact dimensions.
Within this visit we also pressure test your swimming pools pipework and visually inspect the entire pool. The pressure test allows us to see if your under ground pipework is holding pressure. If it fails we can then isolate the bad pipe and look into your potential options. The pools shell will be fully cleaned to give the new liner a clean fresh start and to ensure no sharp objects are underneath.
The manufacturer time is between 10 – 14 working days.
Once the liner has been delivered to us the engineer will give the pool a final clean out. The liner will then be clipped into position and then a hi volume vacuum will be used to disperse any trapped air from behind the liner.
Once the engineer is happy with the position of the liner the main drain will be cut in. Once this is fully screwed into place the pool will be stage filled. The first stage being either to the bottom of a step unit of to just below a underwater light.
The engineer will then return to do the final cutting in and then allow the pool to be fully filled. Once the pool is full the circulation system will be commissioned and chemicals will be added.
The whole process from first measure up to commissioning is usually 15 – 20 working days in the height of summer and a little quicker in the out of season months.
